The exact sequence of bond making and bond breaking processes in a chemical or biochemical transformation is defined as the reaction mechanism. Understanding the precise order of these events adds to our fundamental scientific knowledge and enables the full potential of a process to be realised to prepare complex and high-value compounds more efficiently and more reliably.

The LabFact partners are developing mechanistic understanding in many different areas but in particular using techniques for reagentless synthesis.
